obuh_john_directingGolden Eaglets coach John Obuh is banking on the vociferous Lagos fans to overcome Spain in Thursday‘s semifinal match of the ongoing 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Both semifinal matches of the competition will be played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, with Colombia battling tournament surprise team Switzerland before defending champion Nigeria takes on Spain .

The Eaglets got total support from the Calabar fans during their 3-1 quarterfinal defeat of Korea at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, on Monday and Obuh says the Lagos fans would also play a vital role as the Eaglets aim to win the U-17 World Cup for a second consecutive time, having won the trophy two years ago in Korea .

Obuh said, ”Support will be very important for us in Lagos against Spain . Spain is a very good team and they have the ability to turn a game on its head, but we will see how we turn it before them.

”The people of Lagos know how to support, just like people in other parts of the country. We love them all, and we will continue to do our best until we retain the trophy.”

The semifinal match between both countries is a repeat of the final of the 2007 edition held in Korea, which Nigeria won 3-0 on penalties after full and extra time ended 0-0 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

However, the Eaglets would also be gunning for revenge against the Spaniards as they had beaten their senior counterparts the Flying Eagles 2-0 at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Egypt.
